Enrolments

At Brunswick North West Primary School, we understand the importance of finding an educational environment that reflects the values and philosophies of your family. We also understand that for many families, starting at ‘big school’ is a new and exciting experience for you as well. We endeavour to support this process through personalised meetings with the principal and student lead tours of operating classrooms and learning activities.

In addition to the personalised tours, we conduct a number of group information evenings and open days which invite prospective parents and caregivers to discussion sessions and classroom visits to get a ‘feel’ for the daily life of our school community. Parents and caregivers are also invited to come along from 9 am for a coffee and muffin at Sprout to hear a description of involvement in our school from community members involved in our wonderful school.

Each year our school receives more enrolment applications than we are able to accept. Our school follows the Department of Education Victoria’s enrolment policy on enrolment admissions. In Victoria, children of compulsory school age are entitled to be enrolled at their designated neighbourhood school. The designated neighbourhood school is generally the government school within the closest proximity to the student’s permanent residential address.

At Brunswick North West Primary School, we receive many applications from families outside our designated neighbourhood zone. For all students who seek entry from outside our zone, places are granted according to the Department’s priority order of placement.

  1.   Students for whom the school is the designated neighbourhood school
  2.   Students with a sibling at the same permanent address who are attending the school at the same time
  3.   Where the Regional Director has restricted the enrolment, students who reside nearest the school
  4.   Students seeking enrolment on specific curriculum grounds
  5.   All other students in order of closeness of their home to the school.
  6.   In exceptional circumstances, compassionate grounds.

We ask families to submit enrolment forms by August at the latest, each year. Only enrolment forms that are complete with copies of your child’s birth certificate, immunisation history record and your family’s proof of address can be accepted by the school office.

We aim to have enrolments confirmed by September, for the following year. This allows time for an appeals process and for enrolled students to engage with the Foundation Transition program, which takes place in November and gives each child the opportunity to experience school life in preparation for the commencement of their time at school in the following year.

Please contact our office by completing via our web form or over the phone on (03) 9386 4624 if you are interested in enrolment at Brunswick North West Primary School. We would love to meet you and your family and discuss how our school programs and community can support you and your children in achieving the best outcomes with their early school life and learning.
